Dead tired

I can't decide though I'm pretty sure doing a degree is a pepetual pain maybe 'cept for those that you pay for without the pain. Oh wait, your pocket hurts. Ok, thats sarcasm I hear you say. I'm taking a breather, a 5 mins breather before its work, work, work. And then I feel like that guy up there. He's a CJ7. Anyone watched the movie? I caught it on the first day of opening and it was such an adorable and heart warming movie. I've been watching nothing but horror and zombies. It was all DH's fault. No romantic comedys for me. Damn. Anyhoo, I feel dead, like that guy up there, with crosses over my eyes. Hardly slept, just floating through life as it is. I'm worried about school coz I'm not doing too well this semester. 4 of the suckiest modules altogether. Its like planets crap aligned. I plan to wear CJ7, like this. Couldn't resist picking this up while shopping for swap stuff. Hey Isabelle, I bought a bunch of super cute Marie things! Woo-hoo! Must be the stats class backlash?

Ok, I'm going to spend some waking mins playing with my best friends, Crafe and Cotton Friend.
(Sorry Cotton Time, you're late.)

Alethiometer

I caught The Golden Compass with mum this evening. She had the tickets from her office. I had absolutely no idea what movie it was. All I was told was its the premiere. It was an absolutely brillant movie with the special effects and the very beautiful Nicole Kidman and the adorable yet seemingly sensible Dakota Blue Richards. It was also great to see familar faces like Christopher Lee (Star Wars, Count Dooku) and hear Ian McKellen as the armoured bear. Unfortunately the plot left little to be discovered and the ending was a tad abrupt. I'm expecting sequels since its supposed to be based on a trilogy. Hmm....how familiar is that. This movie is directed by the LOTR team. Loads of similarities in angles and shots, if you love LOTR.

Of course the most interesting piece of equipment was Lyra's alethiometer. Its mostly fantasy but how interesting is a compass, so complex that it is able to dust out the truth or at least lead you to it? Its almost as mind boggling as the Cryptex. Need to know how to read the alethiometer? Here. Need a virtual version? Here.

Hmm....now there's something even better than a vintage musical pocket watch -- an alethiometer! Its on my christmas wishlist.

Folks, are you reading this?

Crazy week, creations, Simpsons movie

Jez~! Its been one very crazy week! My shop had such a boom and tons of people keep telling me my stuff are great! I think I'm one great comment away from being stuck to the ceiling! LOL No, I'm kidding...I'm sincerely glad people find my stuff cute, functional and durable. I do pride myself with good materials & construction, so HUGE thanks everyone! I'd hug you if it ain't virtual. LOL... The stars are for you guys, because you made it happen for florspace. ;+)

Ahh.....the quinessential patchy tote, with some of the favourite florspace fabrics rolled into one. Its been around for a while now but I wanted a good opportunity to list it and then, well, my tired ass dragged all over town to get supplies & post stuff, I had no time, literally. School's been driving me nuts (already!) and I really want to make up more MiniZs for the early Christmas shoppers, and at a great price, no less! ps, I had to sit around for an hour to leave 130 feedbacks just now. I think my neck is out. :P Oh wait, I was talking about the tote you see there....be listing it in a bit. Not too expensive coz its made up of scraps & salvage fabrics, all in the name of Saving GAIA. ^___^

Oh yes, my elephants came, all the way from Nova Scotia where they were born, under the skilled hands of Hazel! I'm so in love with them....really. They live on my bed now, 500 thread count egyption cotton sheets. Should be happy! Actually I can't sleep on less coz my skin is super sensitive, couple with the Sensory disorder thingy, its the only thing I can sleep on. Anyways, if you haven't checked out Hazel's shop, you should already! I have here on my awesome people list, so go now. She's got very adorable little animals for sale too! YUM!

Mamegoma drawstring bag. I made this in haste, don't ask why. I think I was stressed or something. Then I got idiotic and forgot the label. LOL So now, I've gotta figure out a way to put one on or use it myself. I can't decide yet.

Another super cute zakka bag I haven't listed yet. Very adorable fabric from Japan and yup, Japanese linen, stamped with a shroooom! Soon, I promise.

A pen case I was supposed to make for someone but she didn't want it in the end. Any takers? The fabric was lying around and I thought I'll finish it anyways. Its bigger in size, about 8 inches in length. I can't list it on etsy coz its Sanrio fabric. Mail me if you want it. :+) Just $18.

To destress, I watched Simpsons Movie yesterday. I know I prolly should've been one of the earliest to rush to the theatre but I like watching movies when there's no one around so I usually wait a couple of weeks before I go. And like magic, the theatre was empty yesterday. I was alone and for a while I felt kinda eerie. Its the Chinese halloween month afterall. LOL I'm not superstitious but you know, these things get to you. Anyways, the movie was hilarious but I do agree with the critics that its not fantastic. Did we have too high expectations? I'm not sure, but maybe a decade of 30 mins comedy has kinda sunk in that it becomes kinda stale when its a prolonged version. That said, I would still grab a copy of the dvd when it comes out because its great and made by a whole bunch of awesome people!

p/s: that shot above was taken when I was at the bus-stop waiting for the bus home. Looks like the giganic ferries wheel is almost ready... "Singapore eye" anyone?

Have a fantabulous weekend everyone!
I'm off to mail 2 large bags of stuff.

Noh performance and 28 weeks later

I went for a Noh performace/lecture by quite a famous performer, Sakae Terai, who was actually named an intangible national treasure by the Japanese government. Excuse my tiny explanation if you'd already know what it is. Noh, in my own humble little opinion is respectable for what its worth but it almost is a sure way to fall asleep since its extremely slow, with minimal tiny and deliberated movements by the actors. The songs could very well have been buddhists chants because we have no lyrics. The "music" consists of a bamboo flautist, and peppered with 2 drums, one big and small hit in various rhythm thats difficult to follow coz I realise that when I somehow managed to figure it out, I was in a micro sleep motion, embarassing to myself and others. For what its worth, it was a fabulous insight to what Noh actually was, with detailed explanations to the origins, songs, instruments, costumes, stages and masks. DH says that Noh was enjoyed by Japanese aristocrats a long time ago. I told him I preferred Kabuki and um, according to him, the latter was enjoyed by the 3rd estate. Nonetheless, we were exposed to a cultural experience we wouldn't have otherwise had the chance to, considerably rarer than Sado or Ikebana.

I watched 28 weeks later on Tuesday (cheap movie day!). It was nightfall when the movie ended and the weather was cold and unforgiving and it left me far more depressed when I already was about everything. I'd always loved zombie movies. DH and I were obsessed with watching them and collecting the DVDs, everything from Night of The Living Dead, which we believed was the first zombie-esque movies. I'm not sure if the 28 series belongs to the zombie category but I guess we can lump them in. 28 days later, the first installment begun with the guy who awoke to an empty city and albeit hopeless and bleak, there were uplifting moments of the supermarket shopping scene and finding the military, supposedly the savior. In the sequel however, it was just plain depressing throughout with mass destruction and torn families. Every shred of hope was gone the moment it is realised. The thing that was really eating into me was that the whole thing was so real and possible. I sympathize with Londen-ers since the whole scene was set there. I'd imagine its reminiscence of the Black Plague?

So, I'm about into the 4th week in Sydney. Truth be told, I still find the whole place kinda depressing (or maybe it was the movie?). I have no idea if I should be broadcasting this at all but it seems that this place is hit with all kinds of negativity which I suppose all other big cities gets, crime, kidnapping, lousy train system, bad-mouthing politicians and major corp people, crummy and ridiculously expensive food and essential supplies, general rudeness & obliviousness, smoking.... I could go on and on. Would it be the same to be living in New York or Paris?

Happiness is suddenly a quaint notion all over again....

Stuck on me

Stuck on you.

I've been feeling rather empty lately and to even start writing on this blog feels like a huge effort. I've been slacking on my shop lately, partially coz DH was leaving and we were trying to spend some last days together before I'll see him months later. I spent the morning trying to sort out photos, loads of administration and stuff. Didn't sleep much since I'm quite used to DH being beside me. Maybe I should make a huggable model, not the erotic types (!!) but the voodoo doll type, 'cep bigger. Anyways, I spent the afternoon playing Burnout Revenge on the PS2. I'm not usually a PS type person but we've been playing it a couple of times and I didn't want to waste DH's effort on the progress. So I sat there, playing game after game of mind-numbing speed, crash and burn. Its what my mind needed, cloudiness and dizziness. Its tough to want to face the world right now, esp since I'm stuck and stumped. Which is about the exact time I watched Adaptation on TV. I didn't know what it was initially coz by the time I sat down with my snacks (justifiable, dudes.), Nicholas Cage was already thinking aloud. I thought, hell, can't go wrong with this guy. I loved him over time and he reminded me that he is pretty good in Ghost Rider. The movie utterly bored me to death coz I literally felt like Charlie, cooped up in my own silly thoughts and having too much of a brain blockage. Until they came to the part when Laroche was talking about the adaptation of orchids to insects. The passion between insect and flower, the dependance on each other suddenly made some sense in me. I swear my eyes widened a little. Its prolly strange to think that mating right now requires a tall-dark-handsome-fat bank account type guy and a beautiful-slim-sporty-"adventurous" woman for the guys. Whatever happened to the time when you meet a person you could be with your whole life without question? Before you think, "oh, it got old", I gotta say its globalization. Its a great idea to blame something coz its always gotta be something. The dazzling amount of choices of anything we have in life makes it a natural tendency for us to wanna sieve out the best. I don't blame anything. It might be the evolution of man which would be to boring to get into the bottom of (something begets something, something begets something, and so on...) though its interesting to think that we're prolly left with little choices than to be hypnotized by everything we see. So it goes, judging is bad, objectivity is good? Firstly, there's no such thing as objectivity. I can't stress that enough! We're all biased and judgmental. I know you'd hate me for saying this but oh yes, we are.

Apologetic I am. I think and preach too much. And I surf Wikipedia too much too. If you have to know, I majored in Linguistics, minored in Psychology & Sociology. I should prolly say I major in Thoughts. Sigh.

On a lighter note, I've rediscovered a hidden under god-knows-where Godiva box of stones & seashells 'stolen' from the gorgeous beaches of Wollongong, Australia. We were there last winter(western summer) for DH's Ling conference so I had a good walk on the deserted beach. They had old lighthouses there which literally made me scream with delight. Oh yes and the thrift stores were literally goldmines! I discovered loads of things and had loads of fun walking around the tiny City. Wollongon university was this really beautiful place, lovely and quiet, hidden among massive trees and green patches. I'd love to study there if not for the time I saw Sydney Uni featured in a movie that made me dream of studying there. Yes, it was the Quad, its always the lure of the Quad. Anyways, those were great times. I miss the US in Sydney, DH, TC & me.

Ohhh.....there I go again. Its getting gloomy and all. I better leave on a high note!
(Any more exclaimations, you'd think its bonkers.)

Till it gets better.
